Support that ends at the box is not support. Here is how gun owners got left to figure it out themselves — and what we are doing differently.

The Moment the Box Opens

There is a moment every gun owner knows. You bring a new firearm home. You clear it, you handle it, you start learning it — and somewhere around the first cleaning, you realize the manufacturer’s help ended at the box.

The manual covers the basics. Beyond that, you are on your own: digging through a dozen videos of wildly varying quality — some helpful, some incomplete, some confidently wrong — trying to learn the right way to strip, clean, and reassemble a firearm you just paid good money for.

That never sat right with us.

Not long ago, a viewer left a comment on our TM22 Standard cleaning and maintenance tutorial. He was surprised: a manufacturer he had never heard of, publishing a genuinely thorough, professionally produced walkthrough of disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly. And he said it outright — it made him feel better about buying from us.

That reaction is the entire reason these videos exist.

◆ A Long History of Support — and Its Gaps

Manufacturers have always known that owners need guidance. For most of modern firearms history, that guidance was printed: the owner’s manual, with its safety rules, operating instructions, field-strip steps, and exploded parts diagrams. Armorer’s courses and gunsmithing books went deeper for those who wanted more.

Video changed the equation in the late 2000s. Ruger was among the earlier manufacturers to invest in an original online video series, launching around 2009 with content spanning history, skills, and products across its website and YouTube. Henry Repeating Arms built one of the strongest early model-specific libraries, walking owners through safety, adjustment, complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly for its lever-actions and other designs. Springfield Armory added dedicated Workbench Series maintenance videos. Brownells produced an enormous catalog of disassembly and cleaning content for popular platforms, and cleaning-product brands and independent armorers filled in much of what remained.

And yet the coverage never got consistent. Some manufacturers built excellent libraries. Many stopped at the basics or leaned on third parties. For a huge share of owners — new and experienced alike — the experience never changed: buy the gun, then go assemble the knowledge yourself.

◆ The Social Media Reality

If manufacturer video support is so obviously valuable, why is it not universal? Because producing and distributing it is harder than it looks — especially for a firearm company.

The major platforms have tightened rules around gun-related material for years. YouTube’s 2018 policy updates restricted content that promoted or linked to firearm sales and prohibited certain instructional videos on assembling or manufacturing firearms and restricted accessories. Later changes expanded age restrictions, tightened enforcement on sponsorships and outbound links, and raised the everyday risk of demonetization, throttled reach, strikes, and suspensions. Meta’s platforms prohibit private sales and most direct promotion of weapons, with licensed manufacturers and dealers operating under narrow allowances that still frequently result in restricted distribution and content removals.

Educational content focused on safe handling, cleaning, and maintenance is generally permitted when it stays inside the lines. But the lines are gray, enforcement is inconsistent, and organic reach for anything firearm-related is frequently limited. That is why so many companies and creators now dual-post — prioritizing platforms like Rumble that take a more permissive approach to lawful Second Amendment content.

And none of that touches the production side. Real tutorial content demands time, equipment, subject-matter expertise, careful editing, and ongoing updates as new models ship. Every one of those costs sits on the manufacturer’s side of the ledger — which is exactly why so many manufacturers quietly decline to pay them.

◆ How Derya Approaches It

We decided early that the ownership experience after the sale matters as much as the firearm itself.

So we build thorough tutorial videos — safe operation, complete disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, maintenance, troubleshooting — and we publish them on both YouTube and Rumble, so they stay accessible no matter how any one platform’s policies drift. We are committed to doing this for each firearm we make.

We are not perfect. No company is. But we deliberately treat these videos as part of the product, not a marketing extra. The cost of producing them is one we absorb, because owners should not have to reverse-engineer their own firearm from a patchwork of random sources.
